The France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship programme run by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs to help French higher education institutions attract top international students to Master’s and doctoral programmes. It is designed for future leaders with outstanding academic profiles in priority fields such as science and technology, law and political science, and economics and management. The scholarship provides a monthly stipend and a range of additional benefits, but does not cover tuition fees.
Key Benefits
Strong monthly financial support. Eiffel scholarship holders receive €1,200 per month at Master’s level and €2,100 per month at doctoral level.
International and domestic transport support. The programme includes international transportation and certain national transport support.
Insurance and additional services. Benefits include insurance, support with housing search, and access to cultural activities.
Prestige of the Eiffel programme. Eiffel is one of the most recognized French scholarship schemes for international academic excellence, administered by Campus France on behalf of the French government.
Access to leading French institutions. French higher education institutions across the country may nominate candidates to the programme.
Priority fields of study. The programme covers 7 fields within two broad areas: Science and Technology: Biology and Health, Ecological Transition, Mathematics and Digital Sciences, Engineering Sciences.
Humanities and Social Sciences: History, French Language and Civilization, Law and Political Science, Economics and Management.
Valuable international positioning. An Eiffel-funded degree from a French institution is a strong asset for future careers in academia, policy, business, and international organizations. This is an inference based on the programme’s stated goal of training future foreign decision-makers and the standing of participating French institutions.
Who It Is For
international students of non-French nationality applying for Master’s or doctoral study in France through a French higher education institution’s nomination
candidates with an outstanding academic record and clear evidence of excellence
applicants in one of the programme’s priority disciplines
future leaders and decision-makers in the public or private sector, which is the programme’s stated target profile
candidates willing to study in French or English, depending on the language of instruction of the chosen programme; this depends on the host institution rather than Eiffel itself
doctoral candidates applying through a French institution, including some joint supervision or dual-degree arrangements where eligible
Age Range
Eiffel has strict age limits.
For the 2026 campaign:
Master’s applicants must have been born after March 31, 2000
Doctoral applicants must have been born after March 31, 1995.
That means the programme is highly selective not only academically, but also by age eligibility.
When to Start
Ideally, preparation should begin 9–12 months before the application deadline.
This gives you enough time to:
identify the right French university and programme
contact the university’s international office or admissions team
prepare language certification if required by the programme
collect strong evidence of academic excellence
prepare a strong motivation letter, and a research proposal for doctoral routes
secure recommendation letters from professors or academic supervisors
A realistic minimum preparation period is 4–6 months if you already have:
a clearly competitive academic record
language proof where needed
a clear target institution and programme
readiness to enter the university’s internal nomination process
Important: for the 2026 campaign, the call opened on October 1, 2025, and the deadline for French institutions to submit nominations to Campus France is January 8, 2026. Results are published from March 30, 2026. Students do not apply directly to Campus France — applications must be submitted by the French institution.
What Is Included / How We Build the Path
We assess your profile in depth:
age eligibility
nationality
academic performance
field of study
overall competitiveness for Eiffel
Eiffel is built for candidates with a genuinely outstanding academic profile. If the profile is not yet competitive enough, we tell you that directly.
This is one of the most important parts of the process. Because you cannot apply directly, the French institution must decide to nominate you.
We help you:
identify the right international office or department contact
prepare an initial academic presentation
communicate your profile professionally
strengthen your chances in the institution’s internal selection
Eiffel is highly selective, so evidence of excellence matters.
We help you organize and present:
class rank, where available
honours or dean’s list recognition
academic awards
merit-based scholarships
high GPA and strong transcripts
We help structure 2–3 strong recommendation letters, usually from professors, supervisors, or academic mentors, so they reinforce your academic excellence, research ability, and future potential.
We help you identify 1–2 realistic French institutions in the programme’s priority fields.
For Master’s and doctoral routes, we focus on:
academic fit
competitiveness
language of instruction
institutional readiness to nominate international candidates
We help you prepare for the language route required by the programme:
French, where the programme is taught in French
English, where the programme is taught in English
Language requirements are determined by the host institution, not by Eiffel itself.
We help you prepare:
a motivation letter that clearly connects your past studies, chosen programme, and long-term goals
a research proposal for doctoral applications, where required
The goal is to present not just a strong student, but a future leader with clear intellectual direction.
Once a university agrees to nominate you, we help ensure the file is complete, competitive, and ready for internal and external review.
Positioning and Strategy
At Lumos, we understand that the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship is one of the most prestigious and academically demanding scholarship routes in Europe.
This is not a scholarship for simply “good students.” It is for candidates with a truly strong academic record and a profile that a French institution is willing to back in a competitive national-level nomination process.
That means the selection happens in two layers:
first, the internal university nomination stage
then, the Campus France / Eiffel selection process.
Our strategy focuses on three things:
First, realistic eligibility. If you are outside the age limit or your academic record is not competitive enough, this route is not the right one.
Second, nomination viability. Because you cannot submit independently, the key is to convince the university that you are worth nominating.
Third, excellence positioning. Your file must show more than strong grades. It must show coherence, ambition, and the profile of a future decision-maker in your field.
We also make one important point very clearly: Eiffel does not cover tuition fees. For many public universities in France, tuition is relatively low, but for certain institutions or programmes, especially elite business schools, tuition can still be substantial. This needs to be checked in advance for each target institution.
a realistic assessment of your competitiveness for Eiffel
a shortlist of French institutions and programmes aligned with your profile
organized evidence of academic excellence
a stronger chance of securing a university nomination
a compelling motivation letter and, where relevant, a doctoral research proposal
strong recommendation support
a properly prepared file for institutional submission
a clear understanding of the funding structure, including the fact that Eiffel provides a stipend and services but does not cover tuition fees
