FULBRIGHT Program
Assess your chances
Definition
The Fulbright Program is a prestigious U.S. government-funded scholarship for graduate study at American universities. Founded in 1946, the program covers tuition, living expenses, visa, and travel costs for participants from over 160 countries, including Kazakhstan. Its core purpose is to strengthen cultural and academic exchange between the United States and the rest of the world.
Key Benefits
Full U.S. government funding. Covers tuition for 1–2 year Master's programs, accommodation, visa, health insurance, and airfare.
Monthly stipend. Typically $1,500–2,500 per month, depending on the cost of living in your state.
Access to leading U.S. universities. Study across a wide range of disciplines at top American institutions (clinical medicine excluded).
Priority for STEM and key sectors. Strong preference for candidates in technical fields, agriculture, and public health.
Global recognition. A U.S. Master's degree and Fulbright Scholar status carry significant weight worldwide.
A powerful professional network. Join a global alumni community of 300,000+ leaders, including Nobel laureates and senior executives.
Highly competitive selection. A limited number of scholarships are awarded annually for Kazakhstan.
  • Who It's For
    • Kazakhstani citizens with at least 2 years of professional experience after completing a Bachelor's degree
    • candidates in STEM, agriculture, and public health — the program's priority areas
    • graduates of Kazakhstani universities with a strong academic record (GPA 3.5+ out of 4.0)
    • those who plan to return to Kazakhstan and put their knowledge to work at home
    • candidates without a prior Master's degree from the U.S., Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, or Canada
    • individuals prepared to return to Kazakhstan after the program (the J-1 visa requires a minimum 2-year return)
    • candidates who demonstrate leadership potential and a genuine commitment to making an impact
  • Age Range
There are no strict age limits for Fulbright in Kazakhstan, but a minimum of 2 years of professional experience is required.

Most applicants are 24–35, with 2–10 years of work experience.

The program evaluates not age, but the quality of your experience, your academic record, and how clearly you can articulate your goals and how you'll apply a U.S. education back in Kazakhstan. Strong candidates over 35 are equally competitive.
When to Start
Ideally, preparation should begin 12–15 months before the application deadline
This gives you enough time to:
  • accumulate at least 2 years of professional experience (mandatory)
  • prepare for and pass TOEFL — 80+ for STEM, 100+ for humanities
  • begin GRE or GMAT preparation (taken after nomination, but early preparation pays off)
  • write a strong personal statement that articulates your goals and intended impact
  • secure recommendation letters from employers and professors
A workable minimum is 6–9 months, if you already have:
  • 2+ years of work experience
  • a valid TOEFL score
  • a strong academic background (GPA 3.5+)
  • a clear sense of your intended field and program
Important: The application deadline for Kazakhstan is typically in July, with studies beginning the following August–September.
What's Included / How We Build the Path
Positioning and Strategy
At Lumos, we understand that Fulbright isn't just a scholarship — it's a long-term investment in your career and in Kazakhstan's future.

The program isn't looking for strong students alone. It selects future leaders. Your application needs to show not just academic ability, but a clear, credible vision for how you'll use your education to create real impact at home.

Our strategy is built around your individual story. We shape an application where every element — your experience, program choice, essays, and references — works together to answer one question: why are you worth investing in?

We also work honestly. If you don't yet meet the requirements — less than 2 years of experience, a low TOEFL score, or an unclear sense of direction — we'll tell you plainly and propose a path to strengthen your profile or explore alternative scholarships.

One important note: Fulbright requires a mandatory 2-year return to Kazakhstan under the J-1 visa. If your goal is to stay abroad immediately after graduation, this program isn't the right fit.
